The trend towards platform business is continuing to pick up speed. Galeria Kaufhof has opened up for third-party vendors and, as a closed platform, wishes to extend its customer base as well as its product range. Tradebyte has taken on the connection of external product ranges. Tradebyte’s TB-Market software will handle data streams between Galeria Kaufhof, customers and partners.
With its high brand awareness and around 6.5 million online shop visitors per month, Galeria Kaufhof is further expanding its competences as an omnichannel department store. By offering great product and brand variety, the company is pursuing several goals with the newly-created platform: “On the one hand, we want to introduce new products which fit our product range via new trading partners while also expanding the existing product ranges.” Carsten Jürgens, Head of E-Commerce at kaufhof.de, explains. Additionally, third-party vendors help us to improve our own availability of goods without burdening our storage capacity.” If the partnerships are successful, Galeria Kaufhof is also planning to include the products of third-party vendors in their bricks-and-mortar stores. So far, the Galeria Kaufhof online shop lists around 250,000 articles from around 1,000 brands. In the future, these figures should increase further. As the first third-party vendor, Noppies, a pregnancy and baby fashion manufacturer, went live on the platform at the end of May. By the end of 2017, the company aims to integrate another 20 trading partners. Over the next five years, this figure is set to increase to 600.
Tradebyte’s TB.Market supports the company targets of Galeria Kaufhof. As a technical enabler of marketplace strategies and an expert in digital commerce, TB.Market supplies the interface for all order, supplier and drop shipment processes. “We are delighted with the collaboration with Galeria Kaufhof,” confirms Matthias Schulte, CEO of Tradebyte. “The topic of platform strategies is currently one of the trend topics of e-commerce and offers many advantages and interesting turnover potential, especially for big traders like Galeria Kaufhof.”
